GLTC Puts 8 Hybrid Buses into Service; 21% of the Fleet

The Greater Lynchburg (Virginia) Transit Company (GLTC) has placed eight new Gillig diesel-electric hybrid buses with the GM Allison hybrid drive system into fixed route service.

The purchase was funded with Federal (80%), State (10%) and City (10%) capital grants. These new buses represent 21% of GLTC’s bus fleet. The transit system has ordered six additional units that should arrive early in 2009.

GLTC is the first transit system in Virginia to place diesel-electric hybrid buses into regular revenue service.
