Toyota Beefs Up Diesel Hilux in UK
12 April 2008
Toyota will release a new version of its mid-size Hilux pickup (similar to the Tacoma in the US) powered by a performance-boosted version of the 3.0-liter D-4D engine.
A Toyota Motorsport diesel engine performance kit increases maximum output to a massive 197 hp (147 kW) and boosts torque to a maximum 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) from 1,600 to 3,200 rpm, up from 343 Nm. Acceleration time has dropped from 13.0 to 10.5 seconds (manual transmission).
Toyota will produce only 500 units of the higher-performance pickup, which it will introduce at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham on 15 April.
a massive 197 hp? the 4.0-L 4x4 Tacoma comes with a 236 hp, though the torque of this Motorsport diesel is pretty amazing...
