Startup Unveils Hydrogen-Assisted Exotic Car with On-Board Hydrogen Generation

Startup Ronn Motor Company (RMC) unveiled the Scorpion, an exotic sports car featuring supplementary hydrogen fuel injection to improve the performance and fuel consumption of its gasoline engine. RMC plans for the Scorpion to be available for purchase this fall.

The hydrogen delivery system with dual computer processor controls produces hydrogen on demand which is inducted through the air intake manifold and blended with gasoline at a ratio of 30-40% hydrogen, according to Ronn Motor Company CEO Ronn Maxwell.

The engine in the Scorpion is a 2008 Acura dual overhead cam, aluminum/magnesium block, 3.5 liter, V-tech, V-6, Type S engine that delivers 289 hp (215 kW) in stock form, and 450+ hp (336+ kW) with a twin turbo option. Initially, RMC plans to offer the Scorpion with a 6-speed manual, with a 6-speed automatic coming available in 2009.

For the on-board hydrogen system, Ronn partnered with Hydrorunner. Hydrorunner’s G3 electrolytic hydrogen generator was designed to work with all ICE engines, gasoline or diesel.

Ronn Motor Company was founded by Maxwell and former Dell, Inc. executive Adrian Pylypec, who is Vice President for the Company.

We have partnered with automotive industry elite like Hydrorunner to design and produce eco-exotic cars with exclusive styling and uncompromised performance. The Scorpion is a proof of concept vehicle that helps solve consumer energy problems today and we expect will serve as a platform for our second generation vehicles.

Pathetic. The article states that hydrogen is "...blended with gasoline at a ratio of 30%-40% hydrogen..." On the Hydrorunner web site, it states that ONE liter of water will produce enough hydrogen for 3000-4000 miles. Do the math, A and B are not both true. The company site also states that the hydrogen is generated with "unused power of the alternator," as if it is free electricity and the rotational resistance of the alternator doesn't increase when the electrolysis circut is closed.

The sad thing is that real hydrogen injection really does provide benefits, but these on-board electrolysis hydrogen generators don't produce enough H2 to provide a benefit above the additional engine load they create.

This is totally bogus. Mythbusters did a show on hydrogen boost products last year. This one was completely "Busted." I am surprised and dismayed to see blatant snake oil on what I thought was a reputable news source.

I've actually seen this system work & have ridden in the test vehicles that the Hydrorunner systems have been installed in. I've seen this system from the beginning stages to what it has evolved to currently. It was first installed on a Toyota Forerunner (gas ICE) & then on a Ford F-350 (Diesel)Dually, so it will work on both types of engines.
I believe the 3000-4000 miles per liter of water is correct for the typical car & usage; of course driving habits have to be taken into consideration as well. I wouldn't consider this Scorpian a typical car. I believe it is considered an "exotic" with greater horsepower than the typical car, therefore it's engine's fuel usage would be different as well.
The major differences of this hydrorunner system are the secondary computer & the fact that it produces the hydrogen on demand. Since it's produced on demand, there is no need for a hydrogen fuel cell. The secondary computer makes the system control the hydrogen injection efficiently. And yes, there are several safety features built into the system.
Innovative uses of available technologies are often mistrusted until proven. Their conversion system has already been tested by the Rousch Testing facility & the EPA testing facility in CA & proven to work as stated on their website.
These guys are NOT your backyard mechanics playing around with mason jars & garden hoses. The inventor is a Certified Master Engine Technician. This system is WAY ahead of any kind of kit you would be able to order online.
This particular system would NOT have been on any show last year as the press release wasn't issued until Feb 2008.
