Peugeot Citroën Japan To Release Lower-Priced Entry-Level Car
25 July 2008
Nikkei. Peugeot Citroën Japan Co. will introduce a lower-priced, lower-powered entry-level version of its Peugeot 207 compact car for the Japanese market.
The new model will be priced at 2.1 million yen [US$19,600], some 200,000 yen less than the existing version. Its cost has been held down by simplifying the vehicle in part by changing to manual operation of such functions as the automated air conditioner and of the headlights that automatically turn on when it gets dark. Aluminum wheels have been replaced by steel wheels with the size reduced by 1 inch.
In addition, engine has been reduced to 1.4 liters from 1.6 liters. Fuel economy was improved by using a transmission that has the same basic structure as a manual transmission but doesn’t require operation of the clutch because of electronic controls.

I always loved the 1960s.
