Mascoma Names GM Executive to Scientific Advisory Board

Dr. Andreas M. Lippert, director of Global Energy Systems for General Motors Corp., will join Mascoma Corp.’s Scientific Advisory Board, expanding the automaker’s involvement with Mascoma as it moves closer to commercial production of cellulosic fuels.

Dr. Lippert leads GM’s strategic analysis and outlook on global energy developments and energy supply chains, and co-authored a recent GM foundational outlook on energy diversity for transportation.

With his background and his current responsibilities, Andreas is the best person we could have in working with Mascoma’s Scientific Advisory Board. The market readiness of Mascoma’s technology and the opportunity for scientific exchange are big factors in our partnership.

—Larry Burns, GM Vice President of Research and Development and Strategic Planning

GM and Mascoma entered a strategic relationship earlier this year to develop cellulosic ethanol based on Mascoma’s Consolidated Bioprocessing single-step biochemical conversion of non-grain biomass into low-carbon alternative fuels. The relationship includes an undisclosed equity investment by GM. (Earlier post.)
