REV Becomes First Hymotion Dealer in Canada; Offers L5 Conversion Kit for Prius

REV, a Vancouver, Canada company that converts Ford fleet vehicles into highway capable battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (earlier post), has become the first Hymotion plug-in conversion kit dealer in Canada. It is now offering the Hymotion L5 plug-in conversion system for Toyota Prius owners in BC.

The Hymotion L5 installation adds a 5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and charging system to the original Prius. Tested and proven with hundreds of Prius owners in the US including employees at Google’s Recharge It program, the Hymotion L5 kit brings the Toyota Prius’s fuel economy to average more than 100 mpg or 2.35L/100km by adding an electrically assisted range of as much as 60 km (37 miles). The Hymotion L5 system has been successfully crash approved and meets the NHTSA safety test requirements.

The success of the Hymotion L5 Plug-In conversion in the USA clearly demonstrates consumer demand for plug-in vehicles, and as such with limited supply available we expect to sell out quickly. As the flagship dealer for Hymotion in Canada we are very excited to bring this product to market, and we think it will compliment our REV Ford electric vehicle conversions very well.

The Province of British Columbia announced that it is supporting plug-in electric vehicles with an investment of $400,000 to convert up to 40 vehicles in a joint venture with Municipalities in BC.

Any L5 owners out there to comment on how they like their juiced up Prius?

Dave R

There's a good number of them hanging out on forums.

Results seem to be as advertised, though there seems to be a fairly common issue with weak 12v batteries causing issues initializing the system. Workaround is to replace the 12v lead-acid battery or wait until the car is on to activate the Hymotion pack.

cool so how much for us Canadians before the stupid price inflation?

There are reports of the L5 on priuschat
