Daimler Considering New Hybrid Vehicle R&D Center in Michigan

Detroit Free Press. Daimler AG is considering Michigan’s Washtenaw County as a location for a research and development center for hybrid vehicle systems, according to a memo prepared by the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC)

Already, a subsidiary called Mercedes-Benz Hybrid LLC has 14 employees in Michigan, according to the briefing memo provided to the Free Press. Daimler is also still considering sites in North Carolina, South Carolina and California, according to the memo, dated March 17.

If the project moves forward in Michigan, Mercedes-Benz Hybrid’s engineering center would develop alternative propulsion systems including hybrid technology, hybrid transmissions, electric motors and power electronics.

The MEDC memo notes that Michigan is at a competitive disadvantage compared to other states in terms of wages and benefits.

Glad to see any progress away from ICE vehicles, but this seem almost antiquated now. They should be setting up an R&D center for BEV's.
