Suzuki Working on Stop-Start for Alto and Splash

During his press conference at the Geneva Motor Show, Toshihiro Suzuki, Board Member and Senior Managing Executive Officer, Global Marketing for Suzuki Motor Corporation, said that the company was working on engine auto stop/start systems and variable valve timing for the Alto and Splash.

The Alto, unveiled at last year’s Paris Motor Show and going on sale this spring, currently has fuel consumption of 4.4 L/100km (53.5 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 103 g/km. With stop-start and variable valve timing, Suzuki expects to reduce that to 95 g/km.

The Splash, which began sales last year, has CO2 emissions of 119 g/km with a 1-liter gasoline engine and 120 g/km with a 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine. With the new engine technologies, Suzuki is targeting a reduction to 109 g/km.
