VW Presents New Diesel Golf GTD
28 March 2009
Volkswagen is introducing the Golf GTD diesel at the AMI show (Auto Mobil International) in Leipzig, 28 March - 5 April. The GTD features a 2.0-liter 125 kW (168 hp) TDI engine aimed at diesel drivers who value the maximum in dynamics. VW built its first Golf GTD—the GTI for diesels—in 1982.
The new GTD offers fuel consumption of 5.3 L/100km (44 mpg US), corresponding to CO2 emissions of 139 g/km. The car has a top speed of 222 km/h (138 mph) and accelerates to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds.
Like the GTI, the GTD will also offer an optional 6-speed DSG in addition to the 6-speed manual gearbox.
I am having trouble posting this:
Golf GTD: 138 mph and 139 gm/km - is this a record ?
how about:
Prius: 107 mph and 104 gm/km
BMW 520d 144 mph and 136 gm/km
obviously not simultaenously
I wonder by what level the actually achieve?

Fugures for the Prius gave always been optimistic. On road tests have resulted in much lower than the claimed 65-70mpg(UK) - more like 45mpg(UK). Hence you're better off with diesel and get better performance and so on with it, plus also a much better looking car. The prius has a kind of geeky look to it.
With the Golf 55mpg(UK) is realistic and can actually be bettered with a light foot to get somewhere near the CO2 claimed by the prius. I know what i'd buy.

I think there is a market for diesel's in the US, just not a big one. People doing 20k per year on the highway should use diesels, if not the hybrid is probably a better value.

I wish we got the 170 horsepower engine instead of the de-tuned 140 horsepower engine, that extra 1 second to 60 mph is sure worth it! Despite the urea injection.
and i still hate how row it yourself drivers get the shifting penalty compared to the DSG users (the revs drop slower "heavier flywheel I assume" on manny trannies than the dsg).

I think t here's a HUGE market for diesels in the US if they were better advertised. People cannot believe the gas mileage my Jetta gets. They've never heard about it before!
I am waiting patiently for the EOS diesel to come over, but I am getting tired of waiting!!
