India May Add 1M New Cars Over Next 5 Years
12 April 2009
Economic Times. India may add one million new cars to its vehicle parc over the next five years despite the economic slowdown, driven by sales of small cars such as the Tata Nano, according to JD Power and Associates.
The current market size of around 1.5 million vehicles is expected to reach over 2.6 million by 2014, despite the global downturn affecting consumer sentiment and demand. “After China, India is the fastest-growing market in the world and expanding much faster than other emerging economies such as Brazil and Russia. While China is expected to overtake the US and emerge as the world’s largest car market in the next seven years, India could find its place among the top five car markets,” said JD Power and Associates (India) senior director Mohit Arora.
The prediction comes on the back of auto sales growing by a mere 0.13% to 1.55 million cars in fiscal 2008-09. Taking into account the flat growth in the domestic market in the last fiscal, JD Power has revised its projections for the Indian passenger car market to reach two-million units by 2012, a target which was to be achieved by 2010.
China is adding 1 million per month and has overtaken the U.S. as the largest car market.

A green auto is an environmental friendly vehicle that alleviate the harmful impact that the internal combustion engines running on diesel and gasoline produce on the environment.Green cars use alternative fuels ..Basically these cars improve the fuel economy of the vehicle in a cost effective way using advanced technology..Green cars aim at curbing dependence on oil imports which would in turn reduce carbon emissions and the greenhouse effect..The most efficient in this sector are the green autos that use alternative propulsion or an engine which curbs consumption of petrol as in the electric hybrid vehicles that use energy sources which are renewable. Also use of biofuels instead of petroleum and oil fuels have less detrimental effects on the environment.
