Toyota to Bring Hybrid Lift Truck to Market in FY09
19 April 2009
The Nikkei reports that Toyota Industries Corp. will introduce a hybrid forklift—powered by an internal combustion engine and an electric motor—as early as this fiscal year. In January, Toyota Industries had given the concept hybrid lift truck its North American debut at ProMat 2009 in Chicago.
The hybrid lift truck utilizes the hybrid technology and components available from the Toyota Group, including the use of an NiMH battery pack for energy storage.
The Toyota hybrid lift truck combines an IC engine, electric generator and battery in a design that allows the engine to operate with optimum fuel and emissions efficiency. The lift truck shifts automatically between battery and engine mode, simultaneously recharging the battery during operation.
The engine also optimizes the timing and volume of fuel injection, for a reduction in fuel consumption over conventional models currently on the market.
