Ontario Awards Li-ion Maker Electrovaya C$16.7M

The government of Ontario is awarding C$16.7 million (US$15.6 million) to Electrovaya to support the company’s Li-ion battery research and pre-commercialization activities.

Electrovaya is also investing C$94.8 million (US$88.6 million) in the expansion of activities.

“The support from the Government of Ontario allows us to accelerate our growth plans and bring our technology to market sooner. We are excited to be adding to our team and increasing our innovation and technology capabilities in Mississauga.

—Dr. Sankar Das Gupta, CEO of Electrovaya.

Electrovaya develops and manufactures its Lithium Ion SuperPolyme batteries, targeting portable power applications for aerospace, defence and wireless sectors, and alternative energy applications including UPS, stand-by power, plug-in hybrids and Zero-Emission Vehicles.

One more move in the right direction to accellerate mass production of higher energy density lithium batteries.

Electrovaya is actively working on a 400+ Wh/Kg unit. Hope that this will accellerate production, specially the high capacity unit (20+ to 60+ KWh) for PHEVs and BEVs.

More providers the better.

I wonder why the Canadians don't send their money to Nissan?

This company seems to have a nice process for super-polymer li-ion. And the more the merrier.

Is there a link between Electrovaya and Nissan we dont know?
