Electrovaya and Miljøbil Grenland Accelerating Set-up of Li-ion Production Facility

Electrovaya Inc. says that it is accelerating the set-up of its joint-venture production facility in Norway with its partner Miljøbil Grenland. The Miljøbil Grenland joint venture, of which Electrovaya is a shareholder, is establishing a Lithium Ion SuperPolymer cell and battery pack manufacturing facility in Norway to meet the emerging demands of electric vehicles, including the Tata Motors Indica EV. Tata Motors is also a shareholder in this joint venture. (Earlier post.)

We are working closely with Electrovaya to set-up our Norwegian production to meet the European cell demand for the years 2010 to 2012. Electrovaya’s superior energy density and large format pouched cell technology are core competitive strengths. In addition, its unique clean production process is ideally suited to our goals of clean transportation. We will be visiting Electrovaya next week to accelerate our plant build-out to meet our rapidly growing and immediate production needs.

Earlier this week, Miljøbil Grenland also awarded South Korea-based Energy Innovation Group Ltd. (EIG) a contract to supply batteries for the Indica Vista EV project. (Earlier post.)

Does this mean that Invicta EVs buyers will have the choice of two different battery packs?

What has finally happened to the little outfit called Th!nk?? Norway refused to finance their decent little runabout EV. Sorry, but for a country with a $350B oil and gas trust - I expect more from them.

The Invicta EV may be a superior seller. It certainly looks more like a modern car than the Tkink machine.

Secondly, the Invicta bodies could be built at a much lower cost in India and would benefit from a very large low cost manufacturer association.

Future BEVs will have parts and components from many countries to be more price competitive.

The beautiful new Bolloré BlueCar with its Pinifarina designed body may be a direct competitor.

Interesting years ahead with many new BEVs coming to the market.

Worldwide competition will fierce and the Big-3 will have to wake up soon.

Harvey, I appreciate your comment but it still doesn't make Norway look more than myopic when it comes to helping electrification.

Euro government is just as responsible for helping jump start EVs as the US. I want to see more of Norway's enormous oil trust go to global sustainability.

BEVs will come. It's just a matter of mass producing, lower cost, more efficient, battery packs.

Where will most ot them be built, probably not in Norway but where labour cost is much lower. I would place my bet on China, India and Brazil...

A few final assembly steps such as stickers, tags and finish top coat may be done locally.
