IXYS Extends Its XPT IGBT Range for Higher Efficiency at Higher Power Ratings

IXYS Corporation has extended its XPT IGBT product range towards higher power ratings. The 80 Ampere/1200 Volt rated IGBT die fits in the industry standard E3-pack which integrates the Converter, Inverter and Brake stages into one CBI outline. The new module contains the complete power semiconductor requirement of a 15 to 20 kW motor drive application in one package.

The input rectification within the 1200V XPT IGBT module is done by the robust 1600V standard IXYS rectifier diodes with a surge current capability of 1100A, which fulfills the demanding needs of omnipresent motor control and inverter applications.

The MIXA80WB1200TEH is an example of the larger die IGBT module in the highly integrated CBI topology and the IXYS E2-Pack package and the MIXA80W1200TED is an example of the six-Pack IGBT in the industry standard IXYS E3-Pack both taking advantage of IXYS manufactured IGBT, isolation substrate and rectifier diodes. Both packages have a common connection layout and are offered using copper base plates to enable pin-to-pin compatibility for easy replacement with other products in the market.

The electronic and electrical portions of PHEVs and BEVs will easily keep up with the industry wide development. Future inverters/converters on the drawing board will perform even better, be lighter and cost less.

Most of the future PHEVs and BEVs improvement will have to come from the batteries or e-storage units + basis vehicle design because e-motors and control subsystems are already performing at close to 96% efficiency.
