LaCrosse Four-Cylinder 2.4L DI Ecotec Offered in 2010 Q1

Buick will offer its LaCrosse CX model with a new fuel-efficient, direct-injected Ecotec 2.4L four-cylinder engine as standard and priced at $26,995. (Earlier post.)

LaCrosse sales are up 238% compared with a year ago when sales of the previous model were winding down. Buick sales in November rose 14.8% with retail sales—those sold to individual customers—up 33% compared with the same month a year ago. Buick expects about 25% of customers will opt for 2.4L-equipped models.

The 4-cylinder is the third engine choice in the all new 2010 Buick LaCrosse luxury sedan. Backed by a six-speed automatic transmission, the new powertrain combination is expected to deliver fuel economy of 30 mpg highway and 20 mpg city. Direct injection technology helps the engine deliver 182 horsepower (136 kW) and 172 lb-ft of torque (233 N·m).

It seems like an odd match, a four cylinder engine in a two ton car. 182 hp with almost 4000 pounds probably will not perform all that well. Certainly this category of car is more luxury, but acceleration usually comes with the package.
