GM is doing its best to kill the electric car right now still by not using the already proven and tested ZEBRA batteries for some of its vehicles. It has also made a far more expensive vehicle than necessary, but at least it is making it. Because of the US government monies invested in it, none of the vehicles produced should be crushed before 20 years has elapsed after its production. The EV1 vehicles that were crushed could have been turned into a most useful plug-in-hybrid in an afternoon.

Tata of India should have been contracted to build a plug-in-hybrid instead. AC propulsion proved over ten years ago that a three piston range extender is not needed, and they built the prototype for the EV1. ...HG..
