New BMW X3 to Combine Start-Stop, 6-Cylinder Engine and 8-Speed AT

BMW is introducing a number of new concepts, products and technologies at the 2010 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris at the end of the month, one of which is the second-generation X3. The first-generation BMW X3 was a strong seller in the BMW line in both the United States and in Europe. Through its lifecycle, more than 600,000 original X3s have been sold worldwide with 150,000 sold in the US.
For the first time, BMW is combining the Auto Start-Stop function with a six-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission (excluding the US/Canada). The new BMW X3 is also the first BMW X model to feature electromechanical Servotronic steering as standard and the option of Drive Dynamic Control.
At the Paris show, BMW will also premiere:
- BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé.
- Additional engine variants and the M Sports package for the 5 Series Touring.
- M Sports package and xDrive all-wheel drive for the new BMW 5 Series Sedans and for all BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo models
- “Hands-free tailgate opening” on the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and new BMW 5 Series Touring. When the customer is standing behind the car, this feature allows the tailgate to be automatically opened by a specific movement of the foot.
- New product range from BMW M GmbH.
- BMW ConnectedDrive with new functions, including the integration of BlackBerry smartphones in the car, which among other things permits the display of emails including the text-to-speech function. BMW also presents a new Bluetooth interface technology that allows the new Apple iPhone 4 to be integrated, among other devices. A WiFi hotspot function that provides rear-seat passengers using a notebook or iPad with wireless internet access while on the move (not planned for the US/Canada) will also be shown.
