ZF and Foton Extend Strategic Cooperation

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover, ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd. renewed their agreement on strategic cooperation in China. The strategic cooperation between the two started in September 2008. Further projects have already been planned.

Within the next two years, Foton will introduce a new generation of its light commercial vehicles onto the Chinese market; these will be equipped with the cost-effective ZF-Ecolite 6-speed transmission. To this end, ZF and Foton developed a transmission variant in unison which is specially adapted to the requirements and demands of the Chinese market.

In their current joint development work, the two partners adapted a proven ZF transmission to meet the specifications for a new Foton truck. Standard equipment for the light commercial vehicle—hat was unveiled at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition —is ZF’s 5 S 400 manual transmission. The transmission is manufactured at the ZF location in Hangzhou, China.

The parties are exploring possible cooperation in other fields and are investigating the joint potentials for cooperation outside of China.
