Chery launches new EV; powered by China BAK pack

Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. officially launched its first Li-ion battery-powered EV, Ruilin M1, powered by a Li-ion phosphate battery pack from China BAK, at the 25th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition (EVS).

The electric M1 has a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph) and can cover 150km (93 miles) on a single charge.

In addition to the Ruilin M1, Chery also presented four other new EV solutions powered by China BAK’s lithium-ion phosphate batteries, including Ruilin X1, Chery A5, Ruilin G5 and an additional model of its M1 series.

Currently, we are the only lithium-ion battery supplier to power Chery’s electric vehicles and will continue to expand our cooperation with Chery. In the future, we anticipate revenue and market share growth from our EV business as we gradually increase production of our high-power cells to meet anticipated market demand.

Did China ignore the GM/Chevron patent betrayal?

Not only don't US patents apply in China, the Chevron/Cobasys patent was only for NiMH cells.

New energy technology will be parceled out to China dependent on their improving human rights. The reason the Nobel Committee awarded the coveted 2010 Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo - jailed dissident, is to confirm to the world that China's human rights record is despicable.

The whole world is watching China. Release your prisoners of conscience and honor your written agreements on human rights.

@ Reel$$,

You are dreaming if you see the Chinese ruling party loosening their grip for ANY reason. The citizens will not rebel with growing economy. The Party has a tradition of dominating the citizens for many generations. Nothing the Western world can offer or withhold is more important to them than their control over China itself. Nothing.

@Breeze: at one time you could have said the same word for word about England and its colonies, South Africa and its minority rule party. China, Burma, Cuba, North Korea and Vietnam are the pitiful remains of communist totalitarian dictators. China's minority rule CCP is little different than the South African National Party.

Obeying the Chinese Constitution and international human rights treaties they have signed (e.g. UN's Declaration of Human Rights) is CCP's first step. They cannot make progress until they admit they have a problem.

See for yourself what the world sees:

The NiMH may be the D cell variety that are in most HEVs now. They only use about 1 kW or less per car, so these work out fine for now.

Correction...kWh per car.
