GM to offer battery electric car for China in two years
11 January 2011
Detroit News. GM plans to offer a full battery-electric car in China in the next two years to meet demand spurred by the Chinese government.
The vehicles will be of subcompact size or smaller, and target buyers living in congested urban areas, said Tim Lee, GM's president of international operations, today in a meeting with reporters at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
GM plans to start selling its plug in hybrid Chevrolet Volt in China later this year, Lee said. The Detroit automaker already has begun testing its pure electric technology on a demonstration fleet of Chevy Sails in China, but still has hurdles to overcome.
Great! Leave it to the capitalists to save China's as$! Seriously. These are the best people in the business and China desperately needs them.

If more people in China's cities drive EVs maybe the air would be cleaner, except for that coal fired power plant up wind of town.

Yes China and California have challenging pollution problems to address.
Electrified vehicles and clean electric power plants would certainly help both.
