GS Caltex, JX Nippon Oil & Energy to set up JV for Li-ion anode materials
28 February 2011
Dong-A Ilbo. GS Caltex, South Korea’s second-largest energy company, and Japan-based JX Nippon and Oil Energy (formerly Nippon Oil) will set up a joint venture to produce anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Under the agreement, a plant will be built in the Korean city of Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, by the end of this year with an annual production capacity of 2,000 tons of anode materials, or 10 percent of last year’s global demand.
Korea has been completely dependent on Japanese imports for anodes.
GS Caltex is a 50:50 joint venture between GS Holdings and Chevron.

Whatever could go wrong with Chevron and batteries..

Ha ha kelly! Fortunately there are no umbrella patents on Li-ion technology so another Chevron monopoly attempt would fail. This is an encouraging story in as much as we see the beginnings of oilcos groking the need to invest in the EV storage field.
IF old style oilcos are to compete and survive in the near future - they will need to invest heavily in future energy. That of course is electric energy and storage. Otherwise they will become the same as their products: fossils.

Reel$$, Chevron is still whoring it's way out of batteries/payments/responsibility, like token Exxon Valdez payouts - like BP($4B of $20B "..is enough..") BS, like true "big business".
