Advertisers ran 63 commercials during Super Bowl XLV, 19 of those from automakers (30%). Of those, 3 (4.8% of total) featured vehicles with alternative powertrains: one for the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid; one for BMW advanced diesel; and one for the Chevy Volt extended range electric vehicle.
Five commercials featured compact cars: three for the Chevrolet Cruze, and two for the Hyundai Elantra.

Was the GM old folks home ad making fun of the Cruze or senior citizens?
After driving a new Elantra, the Cruze felt like a rock.

The Volt is far too energy inefficient in electric operation. CALCARS had the prius running at 200 watt-hours per mile but the volt is about 360 watt-hours per mile. It costs far too much. Where is TATA when he is needed to build a low cost hybrid automobile for the world. ..HG..

Have to agree with HG on this one. The GM Cruze/PHEV (called Chevy Volt) design is no where near the Prius III or the new 2011 Hyundai Elantra.
The near future battle may be more between Prius PHEV and the Elantra or Sonata PHEV, all due for early 2012.
Of course Tata could beat them all with a basic PHEV under $10K.

What you gentlemen refuse to comprehend is the nature of human beings. They are not interested in one model of everything - i.e. one low cost hybrid, or one type of telephone, or one piece of clothing. If they were, Mao's infamous jacket and little red book would still be around. They are not.
Human beings like diversity. Variety. Unique and different things. Hence the success of hundreds of ever-changing cell phone models; clothing fashions, entertainment types, and boxes of breakfast cereals.
Mr. Tata might well build the lowest cost most efficient PHEV one day - but if it is issued in one style only i.e. a "World EV" - it will fail. You may not like it - but people want their products to reflect personal choice and individuality. A terrifying word (along with "independence") for the communal-mind; but a very real character trait amongst humans. Don't let it scare you. Work with it. There is plenty for everyone.
