Albemarle expands its biofuels catalyst portfolio with Catilin acquisition

Albemarle Corporation has expanded its presence in the biofuels market with the acquisition of Catilin Inc. (Earlier post.)

Based in Ames, Iowa, Catilin is a developer of heterogeneous biodiesel catalysis. The technology reduces the cost of producing a gallon of biodiesel while creating a superior quality biodiesel and glycerin by-product. Catilin’s family of solid heterogeneous catalysts can be easily utilized within existing production facilities, can be reused multiple times and works with virtually every biodiesel feedstock source.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Albemarle launched its Alternative Fuel Technology (AFT) division in 2007. Since then, Albemarle has grown into the world’s largest supplier of heterogeneous catalysts to the biofuels market. Albemarle has successfully launched eight products within its GoBio portfolio for first, second, and third generation biomass conversion.
