Odyne signs long term agreement with Remy for motors for plug-in hybrid systems

Odyne Systems, LLC, a manufacturer of hybrid systems for medium and heavy duty trucks, has signed a long-term motor supply agreement with Remy Electric Motors, Inc. Under the agreement, Odyne will use Remy’s HVH250 electric motors in its plug-in hybrid system.
Odyne has developed proprietary and patented hybrid technology combining reliable electric power conversion, power control and energy storage technology with advanced electric propulsion motors, modular battery systems and other components. The Odyne plug-in hybrid drive system, depending on duty cycle, enables large trucks to obtain fuel economy improvements of up to 50% or greater, compared to traditional diesel engines.
The HVH250 is an advanced electric motor/generator for electric and hybrid vehicles based on Remy’s patented High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) technology that provides improved motor performance and cooling effectiveness. (Earlier post.)
I figured that there would be a whole new market for motors beyond the expensive low volume offerings from UQM and others. There are market niches and then there is real high volume production. The high volume production can do more good reducing oil imports.
