Petrobras signs agreement with Jogmec for a flexible pipe project for ultradeep waters
12 May 2011
Petrobras has signed an agreement with Jogmec (Japan Oil, Gas, and Metals National Corporation) with the aim of commencing a technical feasibility study on flexible pipes for oil production in the pre-salt cluster.
This study is the second collaboration between the two companies. The relationship between Petrobras and Jogmec began in December 2005, when they signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration on activities of mutual interest related to oil and gas exploration and production, health, safety and environment, and sector-related research and development projects. They first joined forces on research projects in 2006, working on Mono-column (cylindrical) Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) systems. The studies have been completed successfully and show promising results.
The technical feasibility study will be carried out by a Japanese consortium which will include Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd. Its brief is to develop a flexible pipe design for offshore oil production in ultradeep waters in the pre-salt cluster. The study is scheduled for completion in December 2014.
After project technical validation, the possibility of setting up a production plant in Brazil will be evaluated.
