The new generator management system uses recuperation of braking energy to charge the battery,thereby enabling reduced use of the alternator, and so reducing the load on the combustion engine.

The intelligent alternator works independently. The power electronics increase the alternator voltage as needed to ensure fast recharging of the battery. BlueEFFICIENCY, and thus also the new generator management system, is part of the standard specification for the Viano, the Vito crewbus and for every Vito model with passenger car type approval.
