Vocis to demonstrate 2-speed EV transmission at LCV2011

UK transmission engineering and control specialist Vocis will give its twin speed electric vehicle transmission (earlier post) its first public demonstration at LCV2011 (the Low Carbon Vehicle show) on 7-8 September at Rockingham Motor Speedway in the UK. The new transmission will be demonstrated in a prototype electric minibus developed with powertrain supplier Zytek.

The heart of the system is a novel gearshifting concept, based on proven twin-shaft principles, that allows the ratio to be changed with no break in torque delivery. New high-precision electromechanical actuators are being developed, working at traction battery voltage (typically 300V) to allow improved efficiency.

Vocis will be exhibiting the latest developments in some of its other technologies too, including low-cost data logging to provide a cost-effective solution for the monitoring of large fleets. The company will also show its rapid prototyping tool for control system development, now in small batch manufacture.
