Opel to unveil new concept lightweight battery-electric vehicle at Frankfurt

Opel will unveil a new battery-electric concept vehicle at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show. The highway-capable vehicle features energy requirements ten times lower than those of a modern small car (with a resulting energy cost of €1 for 100 kilometers); one-third of the weight of a modern small car; and a maximum speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).

Opel says that the tandem two-seater has production potential and would also be affordable for younger customers, suggesting that 16-year-olds could begin driving in a version limited to a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28 mph).

Important assertions..

Looks weird but it may be ok to drive to work (more efficiently) and the limited speed version may be all what is needed for the 16-24 age group.

Ten times more efficient would mean 70 Km/Kwh instead of 7 Km/Kwh?

Actually looks kinda cool. And IF it can meet US crash test standards - ie. can be perceived as a SAFE vehicle - it should be embraced by Europe and perhaps the USA.

1 euro /100km is a very attractive price point.
