Honda begins demonstration testing of Fit EV concepts in Guangzhou; targeting EV production in China before end of 2012

Honda Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. has begun demonstration testing of Fit EV concepts (earlier post) in Guangzhou, China. The tests will be conducted jointly with the government of the city of Guangzhou and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd.

The EVs will be driven in a real-world urban transportation environment in the city of Guangzhou to verify the practical convenience of EVs and identify technological issues needed to be addressed to achieve the widespread use of EVs in the future, Honda said. In addition, proposals regarding re-charging infrastructure will be made based on the results of the EV range verification and other relevant information.

Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. is aiming to begin local production of EVs in China before the end of 2012.

The Fit EV features a coaxial motor (same as in the FCX Clarity) with maximum output of 92 kW and maximum torque of 256 N·m. The charging time of Fit EV is less than six hours with a 220V power supply; the range is more than 150 km (93 miles).



This is going to be a very powerful Fit with 92 Kw and 256 N-m torque. Is all that power required for such a small car?


Hopefully the power is not needed to move a very heavy small car. Hopefully Honda will reveal the weight of the production Fit EV next week at the LA Auto Show. The BMW Active-E weighs 4000 pounds, significantly more than the Series 1 ICE version. I think the ICE Fit weighs around 2700 pounds.
