Hybrid market share in UK climbs to 1.3% in Q1 2012; Toyota and Lexus have >75%

Sales of hybrid-electric vehicles in the UK have steadily risen over the past five years, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. From 2007 up to the end of the first quarter of this year, almost 100,000 hybrid vehicles have been sold in the UK; the market share of hybrids has almost doubled, from 0.7% to 1.3%.

Of that number of hybrids, 77,000 were Toyota or Lexus cars.

Toyota and Lexus are introducing four new hybrids to the UK market this year, including the Yaris Hybrid, the Prius+ seven-seat full hybrid, the Prius Plug-in, and the full hybrid GS 450h.

Total enlarged Toyota hybrid family will gain more sales worldwide in the near future. It is a very good compromise, until EVs become more affordable and with longer range.

They just gained more sales in the UK, from nothing to, um, well, twice nothing.
