Based on Nissan's global platform, the new sports hatchback was developed by DFL-PV especially for the Chinese market and will be built at the new Zhengzhou plant. The R50 uses the HR16DE 1.6-liter gasoline engine.

DFL-PV expects to achieve success with R50 similar to that seen with Venucia D50. In the first two months since D50’s introduction, sales totaled 12,723 units through June 2012.
