M&T Olivine Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) production plant coming onstream
28 March 2013
M&T Olivine Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) and Toda Kogyo Corp. (earlier post) has completed construction of its Lithium iron phosphate plant (LFP). The plant is scheduled to be fully operational from April.
This production plant was built in the Mitsui shipbuilding Chiba plant of Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, and has the capacity to produce 2100 tons a year of LFP.
The company has produced LFP samples using a semi-commercial facility (36 tons/year).
The partners expect demand to grow for LFP as the cathode material of power systems for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and electric vehicles (EV); buildings; power equipment; and smart grid and power leveling stationary storage batteries.
