FTA to award up to $3M for RD&D on bus efficiency

The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will award up to $3.0 million of Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 research funds for innovative research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) projects targeting bus efficiency enhancements, specifically enhanced electrification of accessories, and improvements in thermal management of bus bodies (FTA-2013-003-TRI).
The FY 2012 FTA National Research Program (Section 5312/5314) funding is to promote the development and demonstration of targeted energy efficiency-enhancing technologies—specifically enhanced electrification of accessories and improvements in thermal management of bus bodies—for buses utilized in public transportation.
Eligible applicants include departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the Government, including Federal laboratories; State and local governmental entities; providers of public transportation; private or non-profit organizations; institutions of higher education; and technical and community colleges.
Teams must include key roles by individuals representing both (1) a public transportation agency and (2) a bus manufacturer or supplier of relevant systems or components.
FTA expects to make 6 awards.
