New Honda Civic Tourer will feature rear-only active damping
24 July 2013
Honda will introduce a new rear-only Adaptive Damper System on the new CivicTourer, set to be launched in early 2014. While active damping systems have been deployed for a number of years, this marks first use of such a system for the rear only in a production model.
Honda told Autocar that using a rear-only setup delivers 80% of the functionality of a fully adaptive chassis at half the cost.
By introducing the technology in this format, we expect many customers will be able to experience the benefits of this advanced system.
—Adrian Killham, Large Project Leader
This system features three settings—comfort, normal and dynamic—all of which have been developed to enhance stability and comfort under the varying load and driving conditions that the Civic Tourer is likely to experience.
The new Civic Tourer was developed and designed in Europe, allowing Honda’s European R&D team to lead the creative and technical design process. The Tourer is due to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013, before being launched in early 2014.
