California Energy Commission soliciting ideas for natural gas research, development and demonstration projects

The California Energy Commission (CEC) is currently developing budget plans for natural gas research, development and demonstration (RD&D) activities for fiscal year 2014-15 and estimates that a total of $24 million will be available for natural gas RD&D. As part of this process, the Commission is seeking ideas for natural gas research initiatives in the following areas: energy efficiency; renewable energy; natural gas infrastructure; natural gas related environmental research; and natural gas related transportation research.

CEC is requesting that responders complete an “initiative template” with suggested initiatives by 6 December 2013. A public workshop will be scheduled on 28 January 2014 to discuss the proposed initiatives. The template asks potential applicants to discuss their research idea, why it’s important and needed, and the issues/barriers they hope to overcome. All ideas will be posted on the Energy Commission website:

Ideas received will be considered by Energy Commission staff in developing the plan for fiscal year 2014-15.
