Porsche partnering with A123 Systems on energy storage for 919 Hybrid Le Mans prototype
07 February 2014
Porsche announced that A123 Systems is its technology partner for the development of the energy storage system for the 919 Hybrid LMP1 Le Mans prototype. A123 Systems is the exclusive battery cell supplier for the LMP1 team.
Porsche also announced Schaeffler Group and Veltins brewery as Official Partners of the works team for the return to the World Endurance Championship (WEC). The global Porsche cooperation partners ExxonMobil (lubricants) and Michelin (tires) are likewise on board the Le Mans effort.
The Schaeffler Group, a supplier of technologies for engine, gearbox and chassis as well as for the optimization of the combustion power train, hybrid components and technologies for e-mobility has been a highly appreciated development partner of Porsche AG for many years. The long-term commitment as Official Partner of the Porsche LMP1 team will reinforce this connection significantly.
A123 technology is a good choice for hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies. The capacity numbers are not that great, but high current capability and safety are good, it can be cycled to zero, good temperature range too. I also like the brewing company as a partner. Every team should have a partner brewery.

@BK4, I totally agree! Every F1 & Le Mans team should be required to have brewery partner! LOL
