Diesel sales in March account for 26.6% of VW sales, 15.5% of Audi sales

The Volkswagen Group, which accounted for 79% of the light-duty diesels sold in the US in 2013, reported that TDI diesel sales accounted for 26.6% of its Volkswagen brand sales in the US in March, and 15.5% of Audi sales in the US. Volkswagen Passat TDI sales in March were 4,549, representing 41.2% of sales, and marking the best March and best year-to-date results so far.
The Volkswagen brand delivered 9,764 TDI units in March out of total sales of 36,717 units. Earlier, Volkswagen of America confirmed that the new EA288 diesel will power the 2015 Golf, Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Passat, and Jetta, all of which are set to arrive in dealer showrooms in the second half of 2014. Volkswagen is also introducing the refreshed 2015 Model Year Jetta at the New York International Auto Show this month.
For Audi, the Q7 is its most popular TDI vehicle, with a 25.8% mix. The March sales mix for Audi TDI models was the Audi A6 TDI at 11.3% on 249 vehicles sold; Audi A7 TDI at 8.4% on 72 vehicles; A8 TDI at 13.4% on 64 vehicles; Audi Q5 TDI at 15.5% on 519 vehicles, and for the Audi Q7 TDI at 25.8% on 411 vehicles; with an overall mix of 15.5% on 1,315 total TDI sales for March.

We cannot see a breakthrough yet but with steady increasing sales, other manufacturers might also consider offering this option.
