BYD building factory in Brazil for electric buses and battery packs
15 July 2014
BYD will build its first factory in Brazil in the city of Campinas (in the São Paulo region of Brazil). The factory is slated to open in 2015 and will launch the manufacturing and assembly of the BYD’s electric transit bus in South America as well as the Iron-Phosphate battery packs.
Maximum capacity in the first year of operation (starting in 2015) will be 1,000 electric buses as well as all of their batteries, said BYD Brazil’s General Manager Tyler Li.
In addition to the 32,000 m2 and 20,000 m2 manufacturing facilities on campus, BYD also plans to open a Research & Development center for their Photovoltaic, Smart-Grid and LED Lighting businesses in the second phase of site development.
BYD are getting an overwhelmingly dominant position in the electric bus field.
It helps to have a huge and dynamic home market, of course.
It seems as though Warren Buffet has got something right in his investment strategy for once!

DM:
1) Warren Buffet is and as been one the best investor for the last 40+ years.
2) It is very wise for BYD to expand its manufacturing facilities in South America.
3) Expansion with more facilities in Mexico (for the North American markets) and EU (for the European and Middle East markets) would also be good moves.
BYD has the lead with e-buses, e-taxis and reliable mass produced batteries.
