BMW has sold ~10,200 i3 EVs worldwide Jan-Sep, 341 i8 PHEVs Jun-Sep this year

BMW has sold almost 10,300 i3 EVs worldwide during the first nine months of this year, and 341 i8 plug-in hybrids from June through September, according to Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG in his statement on the company’s quarterly results.

The i3 is now available in China, Reithofer said, adding that the company is seeing a surge in i8 deliveries.

The gradual electrification of our vehicle fleet will allow us to continue to meet the tough CO2 emission targets in Europe and around the world in the future. This year, we will reduce our European fleet’s carbon emissions slightly from the previous year’s level. We view the changes in markets, trends and regulatory requirements as part of our business. These are challenges which spur us on and keep us more competitive. This also applies to new competitors from other sectors that consider the car as a platform for their own business models.

—Norbert Reithofer

BMW automotive brand sales worldwide for the first nine months of the year grew 9.1% to reach nearly 1.32 million units; the i3 and i8 thus currently represent about 0.8% of BMW automotive brand sales worldwide.

Good going BMW with your first generation EV.

At 5% per e-model, sales could reach 50% with 10 e-models?
