Gurit wins multi-annual automotive supply contract for carbon fiber body panels
24 January 2015
Gurit, a worldwide developer and manufacturer of advanced composites and technologies, has been selected as the supplier for carbon fiber based automotive body panels at a total contract value of more than CHF 30 million (US$34.2 million) calculated on a multi-annual basis.
Starting in the fourth quarter of 2015, the new project features industrial production of exterior Class-A carbon body panel parts utilizing both Gurit’s existing open mold manual and its new proprietary and patented advanced press technology. Gurit’s advanced press technology results from continuous research and close collaboration with leading car manufacturers.
The hot compression molding production technology significantly reduces curing time thus enabling efficient industrial production of small-scale series which are fully compatible with existing OEM mass production and assembly methods. Key features of the new technology also include parts accuracy, high-quality carbon look capability as well as Class-A surface quality.
Gurit has been supplying carbon fiber based Class-A car body panels to leading OEMs since 2007.
They don't say to which car they build these panels. I need to know it because im already shopping for a car that I will buy in 2023 approx. and im interested in these body panels. I will buy used but if I know the model I will check for prices now and figure out what will be a good deal used in 2023. I guess that we will learn later on with another article. I will appreciate a car that is cheap, light and especially that do not rust. I had to scrap many cars in my life because I always bought used and keep it to the end and often rust was the prijme reason to scrap the car. If there is no rust, a car can be maintained for more then 25-35 years. Rust, especially in Canada is an enemy. Please build and market and sell cars that do not rust and are cheap, I just want to pay for cheap technologies that last very long time.
