XL Hybrids XL3 powertrain technology now available on diesel commercial van
03 March 2015
XL Hybrids, Inc. announced its XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System is now available on the Reach commercial van from Isuzu and Utilimaster. This marks the first diesel-powered vehicle with the XL3 powertrain. (Earlier post.)
The retrofitted XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System saves fuel through regenerative braking, a process by which the electric motor helps slow the vehicle when the driver brakes, charging the battery. When the driver accelerates, the battery releases the energy to the electric motor, helping propel the vehicle.
Special financing options are available to XL Hybrids’ customers to retrofit current fleet vehicles and pay for the hybrid system over time. Customers can also refinance their existing vehicles or order new vans and buses with the XL3 Hybrid Electric Drive System.
XL Hybrids is unveiling a Reach van with the XL3 system in the company’s booth at the 2015 NTEA Work Truck Show, 4-6 March at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The system is immediately available on the Reach van with 2,500 pounds payload capacity with the XL3 system installed.
The Reach van is a high roof Class 3 delivery van that comes with a standard 151.4 inch wheelbase and the high efficiency 3.0L, 150 HP, Isuzu DOHC I-4 diesel engine.
