Report: VW AG to split into four decentralized groups

Germany’s Handelsblatt, citing company sources, reported today that The Volkswagen Group will restructure, turning away from its current centralized structure to a decentralized system comprising four holding companies running the 12 brands.

According to subsequent reports, one company will run the VW, Skoda and Seat passenger car brands; the second will run the Audi, Lamborghini and Ducati; the third will group Porsche, Bentley and Bugatti; and the fourth will consist of VW Commercial vehicles and the Scania and MAN heavy truck brands.

Part of the rationale for the restructuring reprotedly is to speed up decision-making in response to changing market conditions.

Volkswagen has not commented yet on the reports.
