Tesla offers Model S upgrade to 90 kWh pack; “ludicrous speed” option for performance model

Tesla is offering an upgrade for its top end Model S 85 and P85D (Performance) models to a 90 kWh pack. The $3,000 upgrade provides an extra 5% range, according to the company. (Base range for the Model S 85 rear wheel drive is 265 miles; base range for the Model S P85D is 253 miles.)

In addition, the Model S P85D now has an available $10,000 “Ludicrous Speed” upgrade that reduces the 0-60 mph time from 3.1 seconds in the base P85D model to 2.8 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 10.9 seconds. Time to 155 mph is 20% faster than a standard Model S Performance.

The ludicrous speed upgrade requires the range upgrade to the 90 kWh pack.

A fully loaded Model S P90D (speed and range upgrade ($13,000); carbon spoiler ($1,000); autopilot convenience features ($2,500); premium interior and lighting ($3,000); smart air suspension ($2,500); and ultra-high fidelity sound tops out at $127,000 cash price, or $1,678/month on a 12,000 miles/year 36-month lease.

Additional upgrade options are the subzero weather package and two rear-facing seats for children.

This should give the car a range of 300 miles, if you stick to 65 mph.
