AVTOVAZ introduces dual-fuel Lada Vesta CNG

The car has a large fuel door, accommodating both a gasoline filler pipe, and a compressed natural gas filler.

The composite gas cylinders are equipped with built-in relieve valves and quick-action safety valves. They eliminate any possibility of cylinder rupture, or uncontrollable natural gas leakage should the cylinder be damaged in a crash. The two cylinders with 253 bar rated pressure are located in the rear, under the trunk floor.

A fully filled vehicle’s distance-to-empty is 1,000 km (621 miles). As it runs out of natural gas the engine is automatically switched to gasoline. There is also a manual override switch to select either natural gas, or gasoline. It has been evaluated that running on methane reduces the costs on fuel more than threefold.
