Volkswagen Group brings in new Head of Group Strategy from GM

The Volkswagen Group has appointed a former management consultant and GM executive as the new Head of Group Strategy. Dr. Thomas Sedran will assume the post with effect from 1 November and will report to the CEO, Matthias Müller.
Sedran holds a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hohenheim and a Ph.D. from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.
Sedran spent most of his career as a management consultant in the automotive industry. From 2006 to 2012, he was in charge of automotive business affairs for global management consultants AlixPartners, based in Munich, Germany, working very closely with Opel/Vauxhall on the restructuring of the European operations. Before that he spent 12 years at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants (1994-2006), where he last was in charge of the Competence Automotive Center on a global level.
Sedran was appointed the member of the Management Board of Adam Opel AG in charge of strategy and operations in 2012. As interim CEO he was instrumental in developing the Drive Opel 2022 strategy designed to return the company to sustainable profitability. From July 2013 he was President and Managing Director of Chevrolet and Cadillac Europe.
