VW: 430,046 MY 2016 vehicles in Europe affected by “CO2 issue”

On 3 November, Volkswagen AG announced that during the course of its internal investigation into the diesel emission cheating issue, it had uncovered “irregularities” when determining type-approval CO2 levels, affecting around 800,000 vehicles from the Group. (Earlier post.)

Volkswagen AG has now announced that of those affected vehicles, 430,046 units are MY 2016 vehicles from the Volkswagen (281,617 units, 65.5%); Škoda (83,262 units, 19.4%); SEAT (32,161 units, 7.5%); VW Commercial (17,253 units, 4%); and Audi (15,733 units, 3.7%) brands.

Engines affected are:

  • 75 PS 1.4L TDI diesel (SEAT, Škoda, VW)
  • 75 PS 2.0L TDI diesel (VW Commercial Veh.)
  • 90 PS 1.4L TDI diesel (Audi, SEAT, Škoda, VW)
  • 90 PS 1.6L TDI diesel (VW)
  • 102 PS 2.0L TDI diesel (VW Commercial Veh.)

  • 110 PS 2.0L TDI diesel (VW)
  • 115 PS 1.6L TDI diesel (Audi)

  • 239 PS 2.0L TDI diesel (VW)
  • 95 PS 1.0L TSI (SEAT, VW)
  • 105 PS 1.2L TSI (VW)
  • 115 PS 1.0L TSI (SEAT)
  • 125 PS 1.4L TSI (VW)
  • 150 PS 1.4L TSI (SEAT, VW)
  • 180 PS 1.8L TSI (SEAT
  • 220 PS 2.0L TSI (VW)
  • 300 PS 2.0L TSI (VW)

To expedite any possible reassessment of the vehicles’ CO2 figures, Volkswagen has informed the relevant authorities of the latest findings. At the same time the Volkswagen Group is informing its importers and trading partners.

The next step will now be, for example for the Volkswagen brand, for the new CO2 figures to be determined under the supervision of the German Federal Vehicle and Transport Authority (KBA).

Over the coming week, the brands’ national customer information pages on the Internet will also be added to with information on the CO2 issue. By entering their vehicle identification number (VIN), customers can find out here whether their vehicle is affected.

The affect on earlier model years is being investigated in conjunction with the authorities. Based on what is known at present, the Volkswagen Group continues to anticipate that this will be the previously communicated total figure of around 800,000 vehicles in total.

The Volkswagen Group said that it is in addition already in dialogue with the respective countries’ financial and fiscal authorities so that all taxes arising in direct relation to the CO2 issue are charged straight to the Volkswagen Group and not to the customers.

With this issue, the vehicles’ safety is not affected and there is no need for any technical measures to be taken.

I continue to be amazed by the slow-motion catastrophe that is VW. One can only wonder what they will find under the next rock they turn over.

Given that the incentives are shared by all auto companies, this is likely to eventually spread industry-wide.

“CO2 issue”, “irregularities”

You know, just once I'd like to see someone man up, take responsibility and call it like it is.
