Lucid Motors selects AZ for EV factory

Luxury EV startup Lucid Motors has selected Casa Grande, Arizona, as the location for its factory. The site selection team evaluated more than 60 potential sites in 13 states throughout the United States.

The Lucid factory program will be overseen by Brian Barron, Lucid’s Director of Manufacturing. Barron is an 18-year veteran of BMW, where he ensured the timely launches of various BMW model lines and managed functional areas in both South Carolina and Germany.

Lucid plans to break ground and begin hiring in the first half of 2017. It plans to begin production of the first model in 2018.

Lucid’s Chief Technology Office is Peter Rawlinson, formerly Vice President of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla and Chief Engineer of the Model S. Rawlinson led the engineering of the Model S from clean-sheet to production readiness while simultaneously building the engineering team.

As a hands-on engineer, he also holds a significant proportion of the Model S vehicle patents.
