GAC Motor showcases Enverge concept EV at Detroit show

China-based GAC Motor, which has now attended the North American International Auto show (NAIAS) for four years straight, each time increasing its presence, showcased its signature lineup this year in Detroit, including the new GA4 sedan and the electric concept car Enverge. GAC plans to enter the US market in 2019.

The compact sport-utility new energy concept vehicle Enverge is GAC’s lateset exploration in the field of crossover electric vehicles. With a 71 kWh pack, Enverge has a projected range of 370 miles.

Fast charging will provide 240 miles worth of range in 10 minutes. GAC is also planning a wireless charging offering.

In 2017, GAC Motor established its North American R&D center in Silicon Valley and hosted job fairs in Silicon Valley, Detroit and Boston. Founded in 2008, Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor CO., LTD (GAC Motor) is a subsidiary of GAC Group which ranks 238th among the Fortune Global 500 companies. The company develops and manufactures premium quality vehicles, engines, components and auto accessories.

GAC Motor achieved a 37.2% year-on-year increase in 2017, and now ranks first among all Chinese brands for five consecutive years in J.D. Power Asia Pacific’s 2017 China Initial Quality Study SM (IQS). The company had a production and sales volume of 500,000 vehicles in 2017 and aims to reach 1,000,000 vehicles by 2020.

The quick charging rate (24 miles/minute) and near extended good weather range is interesting. This new near extended range BEV will challenge TESLA Model 3 performances.

Will it be imported into USA/Canada and if so at what price?
