SEAT launches electric carsharing pilot in Barcelona with fleet of eMii prototypes

SEAT, a member of the Volkswagen Group, has put a fleet of electric eMii prototypes into circulation to launch an electric carsharing service aimed at the more than 1,000 employees of the SEAT Metropolis:Lab Barcelona and the Pier 01 Barcelona Tech City. The eMii is a SEAT version of the Volkswagen e-Up, and uses an 18.7 kWh pack with a 60 kW motor for ~160 km (99 miles) of range.

The batteries take 8 hours to charge at slow recharging points, and 35 minutes at the fast charge points.

Users can reserve a car from the fleet via a mobile app. After making the reservation, the system sends a digital key that enables the user to access the car with a single click, without the need for a physical key.

The data provided by the fleet of eMiis will be added to the research and development of technologies spearheaded by SEAT’s digital lab.
