Teijin breaks ground for carbon fiber facility in South Carolina

Teijin Limited celebrated the groundbreaking of a new carbon-fiber production facility of its wholly owned subsidiary Teijin Carbon Fibers, Inc. (TCF). Teijin, aiming to be an enterprise that supports the society of the future, will further evolve its carbon-fiber businesses under a long-term vision to reduce environmental footprint to satisfy tightening environmental regulations worldwide.

We look forward to this new chapter of Teijin’s expansion in the US. We are strengthening its global upstream-to-downstream carbon fiber business. In particular, we have been leveraging research and development to expand carbon fiber business in the aircraft and automotive fields.

Throughout this process, we looked at multiple locations, but ultimately, with the support of Greenwood local and state government officials, we chose Greenwood as the ideal location for our new US carbon fiber facility.

—Yukito Miyajima, President of TCF

The TCF facility is expected to create some 220 jobs with US$600-million worth of investment around 2030. This is the largest initial capital investment that a company has ever created in Greenwood.
